After all, music is a constant source of inspiration for the experimental-pop sensation, who released her debut solo album last year. For this month’s PRESS PLAY, Amore lets us in on what’s playing in heaven, the song that gets her moving, and her ultimate dream collab.
What’s the first lyric you ever screamed in a car?
There’s a Spanish pop song I used to sing a lot when I was a kid called “Eres un enfermo” by Las Supremas de Móstoles. They were three sisters, Vicky, Luisi and Susi, from Móstoles, a town just outside Madrid, and the song became a hit in Spain in the early 2000s. I was very little at the time, and I screamed the lyrics by heart during family trips without really understanding what the song was about. But as I’ve grown up, I’ve realized how brilliant the lyrics are, and I’ve come to see it as one of the best songs written in Spanish. It captures this moment of transition into the digital age, where a woman finds out that her husband is cheating on her with women online. It’s simply genius.
Hit shuffle or listen to an album front-to-back?
I’d say I’m more of a front-to-back person. I really enjoy listening to an album all the way through, and lately I’ve been trying to do that more by stepping away from digital formats. I love the idea of collecting my all-time favorite records, putting one on the record player, and just letting it play without skipping a song. I think it’s the best way to feel music as a soundtrack to your everyday life.

Who will you always hand the aux to?
My friend and manager, Rocio. I think she has really good taste in music, with the perfect balance between underground stuff and classics. That’s the kind of listening session I enjoy the most.
Which song on this playlist makes you want to dance?
Paradoxically, “Don’t Move” by Phantogram. I say paradoxically because of the title: It reminds me of a beautiful, innocent, wholesome time in music, when electronic and pop-rock met each other in a very bright place. It just makes me happy and dancy.
What are three words to describe your sound?
Playful, experimental, circumstantial.
What’s your favorite travel destination?
I love traveling to other countries, but my big dream is to get to know every corner of Spain.
What are your headphones of choice?
I always come to the same conclusion: Apple wired headphones. The bass is just too good. I kinda hate these studio headphones where everything sounds sooooo bright and analytical, ’cause I’m not a very good mixer and usually work with my intuition, so they make me feel like I don’t know anything about sound.
What album is playing in heaven?
Lover’s Rock by Sade.
Where do you get inspired?
Villages, conversations, and car trips.
